Unfinished matter(s)’ a concrete hut | Space Futures

Unfinished matter(s) refers to a structure that's always managed to have some spatial quality– due to its friction with an existing wall assembled to it–that divides its plots and its natural surrounding environment. Without a clear intention, a unique identity has been revealed to this structure: a building that exists between assembled parts is a fragment. The structure faces diverse environmental atmospheres, both private or public. It creates a curious spatial tension between different moments, the existing built structure has rested static for several years as is, untouched being degraded as time passes. It, like life, remains permanently unfinished.

An open, unfinished assembly (assemblage within space and matter).

As an architect and curator, Hugo Santos Silva’s practice is an investigation into the meaning of a place and the design of spatial experiences and events. As an artist, Hugo takes a scientific approach to his work as an active listener. By using photography, video, and writing as research, he explores the built and unbuilt landscape and enunciates the experience of place and architecture. His work explores the atmosphere, silence, and mood that light creates in relationship with space. Hugo thinks of his works as a transition between space and time.
