Art Files: Kuan-Ya Wu

Heirloom, Yarn, 3D print (PLA), umbrella, 41 x 41 x 41 inches, 2023.

Kuan-Ya Wu is an installation artist based in San Francisco, California.  She graduated from ArtCenter College of Design with a BFA in Fine Art in 2023. Her research involves conversations about finding safe spaces and the idea of security and insecurities. Wu’s work is driven by a deep curiosity and interest in architecture from her upbringing in Taiwan. Windows or openings are repetitive subjects in her work. Wu encourages her audience to experience her sculpture and installations not only visually but also with physical touch: to feel the smoothness of clay, the softness of fabric, and the fragilities of paper. Her safe spaces are non-confrontational and temporary; they exist in private and public; they are a state of mind and an experience more than just a secure environment.
